Pakshipathalam - Wayanad

It is only 7km from Thirunelli and 38km from Mananthavady. It is over 1,700m above sea level. The only way to get up here is to trek. It is meant for keen bird watchers. There is a watch tower located in the bird sanctuary here. There are a lot of animals too: elephants, jungle cats, civet cat, tigers, bison and peacocks. The caves are synonymous with ancient sages who visited this place to meditate. Visit this area between November and April. Tourists are required to obtain permission from the Forest Department to go for a tour to Pakshipathalam. Vehicles, guides and camping apparatus are arranged by the District Tourism Promotion Council.
